Talking Taiwan Rebroadcast of Sunflower Movement Episode 43: Reflecting Back from the Civil Unrest of 2020
The murder of George Floyd, has sparked protests and civil unrest across the U.S., and tensions have mounted. As I watched all this unfolding, it triggered a memory of a time in which I found myself in the midst of intense protests in 2014. I was in Taipei, Taiwan at the time and witnessed first hand what came to be called the Sunflower Movement. I was there the night that students and activists occupied the Legislative Yuan in Taipei in an effort to block the passage of a trade pact with China.
I am NOT drawing any parallels here, just reflecting back on what happened on March 18, 2014. For anyone who wants to know more about the Sunflower Movement, I'm resharing an interview I did with an activist who was there on the night of the occupation of the Legislative Yuan (which is equivalent to Congress or Parliament).
